Langley Vale – Visitor Centre

Epsom

One Off: Flexible exhibition space and viewing platform.

“If you go down to the woods today you’re sure of a big surprise…”

  • Sector: Leisure

  • Features: Flexible Exhibition Space

  • Client: The Woodland Trust

Pod Architects entered the Woodland Trust competition to design a new visitor’s centre, finishing in the top 20 of 237 entries.

The vision is for a building that reflects the act of coming together at the heart of the woods inviting the visitor to feel part of the wider Centenary Woods project. The landscape and the building create spaces for activities to take place – whether enjoying your own picnic, viewing the exhibitions, resting after a long walk or simply enjoying the views and natural landscape that Langley Vale has to offer. “The panel felt that this scheme offered something different from the other designs put forward” “The creation of pathways out into the site, linking the building to the landscape was well liked, as was the creation of solids and voids providing 360 degree views”
